About my practice
Hello, my name is Aoife ('ee-f-a', an Irish name) and I am a qualified psychotherapist with a MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy. I specialise in working with people who are experiencing difficulty in their relationships.
Are you someone who finds themselves repeating the same behaviours in new or past relationships and not really understanding why? Perhaps the same doubts, frustrations, or anxieties enter your mind, and you find it difficult to trust people. I believe this can stem from our early years; specifically, the way that our environment and our significant relationships can shape how we relate to others and influence our perception of the world. Sometimes if we have had a negative experience, or many negative experiences, in our significant relationships it can lead to us internalising a negative self-image and we can feel unsafe in relationships. Part of our therapeutic work together would be to explore some of the difficult feelings that may be holding you back and to begin to develop a stronger sense of self. This can be achieved through co-emotional regulation, calming the body, and exploring the way you have learn to adapt and protect yourself in relationships.
There is no expectation or pressure, you can share anything in your own time. I value the importance of listening to and believing every individual’s unique experience. This has been greatly enhanced by my background in supporting neurodivergent students with ADHD and Autism.
If you are curious and would like to start therapy with me, I offer an initial free 20-minute phone call or video meeting to give us an opportunity to discuss what you are looking for and if we would be a good fit.
